My name's Becks, (as in Rebecca, and the cheap beer) and I'll be your unqualified guide. I'm an independent review writer and poet, ​and this site gives me the freedom to share my thoughts, opinions, poetry and think pieces.

 

With my 'Classics Book Club' reviews I'm hoping to guide new audiences through the worlds written before their time, finding ways to engage and relate classic books to life today. This is a 'the girls and the gays' book club, which refers to the authors I will be writing about, not strictly the demographic of readers, anyone is welcome to join :) 

 

I have been lucky enough to work with upcoming musicians on my reviews of their new music and live performances. It is endlessly important to support and recognise the work of creatives who are following their dreams. I'm a fan of the strange, offbeat, and underrated, and have a weak spot for escapism. I am cynical yet optimistic, emotional but vacant, free spirited and anxious. If those kinds of contradictions speak to you then we'll get on just fine.

I'm a born and bred (undercover) Essex girl, who moved to Surrey to study English Literature with Creative Writing. I took a placement year out in North Carolina so I could postpone the 'real world' a little longer and am currently based in Leicester. Now that I've graduated I plan to take my time to find where I want to be. Wherever you are in life, I encourage you to do the same thing too.
